The Local Authority Building Control North and East Yorkshire Building Excellence awards for 2012 were recently announced at a ceremony in York.

This was the third awards event for the area and an opportunity to showcase local authority building control successes.

All the finalists and award winners represented excellent examples of partnership working with local authority building control and were drawn from a large number of nominations received.

The awards scheme is open to architects, designers, builders and home owners and all category winners received a trophy. Winners of each category are also eligible for nomination into the Yorkshire area and then the National Local Authority Building Control awards to be held in London later this year.

Projects in the East Riding which received recognition at the awards event were as follows:-

Highly Commended in Best Small Housing (single dwelling) category

New vicarage, Skirlaugh (Manor House Developments). Architect: WR Dunn & Co Ltd

Winner in Best Small Housing (2 to 10 units) category

Northolme Road, Hessle (Latus Developments). Architect: Building Design Architects (ERYC)

Commended in Best Small Housing (2 to 10 units) category

Mulberry Gardens, Goole (Peter Ward Homes). Architect: Building Design Architects (ERYC)

Winner in Best Community Building category

New community hospital, Beverley (Interserve Project Services Ltd). Architect: Aedas

Winner in Best Educational Building category

Driffield School (Interserve Project Services Ltd). Architect: ERYC

Winner in Best Technical Innovation category

Warehouse and distribution centre, North Cave (Hobson & Porter Limited). Architect: Lanham Associates

Winner in Best Partnership with a Local Authority category

Pete Ashcroft, head of planning and development management for East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “Building Control is an important part of the construction process which helps to ensure high quality, thermally efficient and safe development in the East Riding.

“I would like to congratulate all those involved in these East Riding projects which have been recognised through the prestigious LABC awards.”

There is the further good news that, since the awards ceremony, the council has been notified that three of the East Riding winners have been shortlisted for the national awards event in London. These are Northolme Road Hessle; Flowers International (warehouse and distribution centre); New community hospital Beverley (NHS East Riding of Yorkshire).
