The Council has a statutory duty to provide a housing strategy which sets out the vision and housing priorities for East Riding.
A draft strategy has been developed and is now out to consultation.
The draft strategy’s vision is to ensure that the range, quality and affordability of housing in East Riding meets the needs of current and future residents, contributing towards more sustainable communities and encouraging economic growth and prosperity. This vision is delivered through three broad objectives: knowing our community; ensuring strong, vibrant and healthy communities; and delivering excellent housing services.
The draft strategy has been influenced by changing Government policy, particularly the Localism Agenda. The draft strategy provides a very broad framework against which a series of more detailed policies, plans and strategies will be developed. Specific reference is made in the draft strategy to the planning system in delivering identified housing priorities. The draft strategy also focuses on the provision of housing and support options; capital investment in existing housing; and the delivery of new homes, including specialist supported housing to help meet the needs of vulnerable people.
Councillor Symon Fraser, council portfolio holder for the environment, housing and planning, said: “The draft housing strategy is an important document, which sets out how the Council plans to address both short and long term challenges. It is important that residents give us their views so that they can influence both the strategy and subsequent housing policies and plans.”
